Cultural Safety Audit Tool for Individuals

The Cultural Safety Audit Tool for Individuals is designed to assess an individual’s level of development in understanding critical elements of cultural safety in working to create culturally safe experiences for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals.

This is done through a rubric that contains three critical areas of impact on cultural safety: racism, social-cultural context, and being an ally. For each focal area, the individual must honestly self-assess their practices, ideas and actions to determine their score for each focal area.

Organisations can request that individuals complete the survey twice over a six-month or 12-month period to determine their progress towards cultural safety. Individuals who personally decide to track their cultural safety development can do the same. The audit tool can be also be used as a once-off reflection task.

Cultural Safety Audit Tool for Organisations

The Cultural Safety Audit Tool for Organisations is designed to assess an organisation’s commitment to a level of development in embedding cultural safety. This is done through the organisation completing a digital rubric with between one and four elements for each focal area, where a company must honestly assess the organisation on a scale between one and five.

The focal areas include Leadership, Governance, Engagement, Environment, Workforce, Workforce Development, Policy, and Performance Management, which are essential for a culturally safe environment.

The tool was designed for both non-Indigenous and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations in a range of fields including but not limited to health, higher education, human services, research and policy. It is best used regularly to track the organisation’s progression and development in generating a culturally safe environment, such as every 6 or 12 months. Once purchased, the tool is available for four years.

What to expect

Once you have purchased the tool, you will receive an email from us with a link to register for the digital tool. You will also receive a physical copy of the tool in the post – this is very important as it provides full information for the tool, including how the process works and ways to approach the assessment, which is particularly important for organisations.

The physical tool contains the full rubric which will allow you and your team to think about how you will answer before responding in the digital tool.

The tool is designed so you can reassess on an annual basis (the tool is available for four years after purchase). Once you have completed the rubric, your results will show in a graph. Each time you complete the rubric, you see an updated graph showing your results over time. This provides a clear idea of whether you are progressing or not and in which areas.

Note: The name and email address you use to purchase this tool will also be used for your login details. If you are purchasing the tool for someone else but require the invoice to be sent to you, please email before purchasing and we will set the accounts up for you.
