Crowd at Lowitja Conference 2023

As Australia’s only national Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community controlled health research institute, Lowitja Institute provides leadership and guidance that aims to have a positive impact on the health and wellbeing of our peoples.

Our work encompasses all areas that contribute to the health and wellbeing of Australia’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples through high-impact quality research, knowledge exchange, and by supporting a new generation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health researchers.

We promote embedding cultural and social determinants into health systems across the country. Supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander-led research and organisations ensures policy, research and practice is culturally safe. This also contributes to closing the gap in health outcomes for our peoples.
