Mark Wenitong

Strategic Advisor

Dr Mark Wenitong is from both Kabi Kabi tribal group of South Queensland and South Sea Islander heritage, and is the director of Research Knowledge Translation at the Lowitja Institute. An Adjunct Professor from the Queensland University of Technology School of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences, Dr Wenitong is also inaugural Co-Chair of the Queensland Health State-wide Clinical Network. His work entails clinical governance and strategic primary health care planning and policy.

Previously, Dr Wenitong was the Senior Medical Officer for Apunipima Cape York Health Council until 2020 and Aboriginal Public Health Medical Officer at National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health (NACCHO). He was the Senior Medical Officer at Wuchopperen Health Services in Cairns, Queensland for the previous nine years. He has also worked as the medical advisor for The Office of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health in Canberra, ACT, and was the acting CEO of NACCHO for a period in 2012. He has worked in Primary Health Care in East Timor, and has worked in community development with World Vision in Papunya Northern Territory, northwest of Alice Springs.
