Race and Culture in Aboriginal Health: A facilitated discussion

This paper provides a summary of the background, process, outcomes and recommendations of a workshop held at the Menzies School of Health Research in Darwin in May of 2003. It was designed to create a non-threatening space for researchers in Indigenous health to consider the ways that they approach Indigenous ill-health. The workshop discussed how notions of race and culture interact with research into Indigenous health, and how non-Indigenous people work with Indigenous people towards the common aim of solving problems faced by Indigenous people. In the final session, recommendations for using race and culture in health research were presented.
