Ethics committees

Human Research Ethics Committees (HRECs) review health research proposals if the research involves humans. More than 200 HRECs in research organisations across Australia are registered with the National Health and Medical Research Council.

When health research is proposed that involves First Nations people, the HREC should ensure a consultation process with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander experts and key representatives. For further contacts please check our national, state and territory contacts, or visit the National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (NACCHO) or one of its eight state and territory affiliates.
