Project Summary:
This project aims to evaluate a pilot after-school cultural program in consultation with the local community. The aim of the program is to help children make healthy lifestyle choices through activities that represent Aboriginal culture. As part of this project, information will be taken back to the community and negotiated, then re-negotiated, to ensure important outcomes and methods for assessing the outcomes are identified. The outcomes will focus on:
- physical health such as physical activity, healthy eating behaviours and body mass index
- social and emotional health such as peer relationships, school-related behaviours and behaviours in the home environment, and
- spiritual health such as connection to culture, sense of pride and belonging.
