The workforce program currently has three goals:
Program 2 is driven by the need to know how to better grow and sustain a health workforce to address Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health needs across the health system. This program will initiate, support and resource the development of new knowledge and capability in the development of the health and health research workforce. It will be cognisant of the significant policy work in this area as well as the key role played by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peak professional bodies. A key principle underpinning this program is that the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health workforce has a key role to play in closing the gap in health outcomes by making services more culturally appropriate and accessible by bringing a unique understanding to health delivery for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
