What we do

What we do

The Lowitja O’Donoghue Foundation Scholarships support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people interested in study, internship, and a career in the following areas: Nursing and the Public Service Sector.

This is an acknowledgement to the legacy of Dr Lowitja O’Donoghue’s dedicated lifetime of work, and whose pioneering achievements created pathways and opportunities for many generations of First Nations peoples.

Educational resources

The Lowitja O’Donoghue Foundation will be the source of an incredible archive of information and significant historic timelines and occasions, through a suite of resources detailing the life and times of Dr Lowitja O’Donoghue.

We will highlight the many facets of her inspiring life, including the obstacles and injustices that threatened to discriminate and disable her.

Through the sharing of Dr O’Donoghue’s extensive stories and extraordinary memorabilia, we will provide valuable and vital education around how a young Aboriginal girl who was repeatedly told she would never amount to anything, defied everyone to become “the greatest Aboriginal leader of the modern era … the rock who steadied us in the storm”. (Noel Pearson)

Events and presentations

We aim to create events that will unite and encourage people from all walks of life to both celebrate and participate in learning more about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures. These will include fundraising events, speaking presentations and community focused gatherings.
