The following are eligible to apply to be Members of the Lowitja Institute:
*Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisation members: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations committed to the purpose and values of the Lowitja Institute, with voting rights. Our Constitution defines Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Organisation as an incorporated organisation:
(a) which has at least 51% of its members being Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people;
(b) which has at least 51% of its governing board being Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people;
(c) whose principal purpose and activities are related specifically to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
*Non-Indigenous organisation members: Organisations committed to the purpose and values of the Lowitja Institute, no voting rights.
*Lowitja Institute Alumni Members: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Lowitja Institute Scholarship recipients and/or Chief Investigators and/or team members of research funded by a Lowitja Institute grant, no voting rights.
*Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Individual members: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander researchers and/or individuals committed to the purpose and values of the Lowitja Institute who don’t meet the criteria of Alumni Membership, no voting rights.
The following individuals are eligible to apply to be Friends of Lowitja Institute (no voting rights):
Non-Indigenous Friends of Lowitja Institute: Non-Indigenous researchers and/or individuals committed to the purpose and values of the Lowitja Institute
* Member applications require Board approval. The Board meets quarterly and therefore delays in notification may occur. Information on the governance of the Lowitja Institute and our Constitution can be found here.
