Searching other databases and the web

This guide supplements the LIt.Search facility provided for PubMed searches. It is underpinned by findings from the Models of rapid synthesis project, which found that both government and non-government reports are an important part of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health literature knowledge base.

The major organisations for producing reports in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health were analysed and shown to include the domain names: gov.au, org.au, edu.au.The domain names represented by Gov.au includes federal, state and local government, Org.au refers to organisations that are non-commercial and can include incorporated associations and special interest organisations and Edu.au includes tertiary and school educational institutions A search is provided below using the topic maternal health. The search is then narrowed by organisation and document types.

Search 2 targets specific fields in the database and will retrieve less results than search 1 resulting in less irrelevancy, it may exclude relevant results.

Search 1

(((aborigin* OR indigenous) AND (australia* OR “northern territory” OR queensland OR “new south wales” OR victoria OR tasmania)) OR (torres strait* AND islander*))
