Group A Streptococcus (GAS, Streptococcus pyogenes) is a bacterial pathogen responsible for a range of diseases including rheumatic fever and rheumatic heart disease. A vaccine has been developed and is currently under phase 1 human clinical trial in healthy adults to assess the safety and immunogenicity of this formulation.
