The Lowitja Institute and CRCATSIH aim to develop the capacity of the research workforce in the field of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health.
The Education and Training program aims to:
- Support research skills development in research higher degree students and graduates in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health research.
- Contribute to building pathways for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health professionals and students into research careers.
- Work with stakeholders to build their capacity to identify and implement relevant research findings in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health sector.
- Develop knowledge, tools and resources for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health workforce reform.
Education and training activities include:
- Developing Researching Indigenous Health: A practical guide for researchers. This resource focuses on the specific skills and knowledge for carrying out research in the field of Indigenous health. It was launched in July 2011 and is a companion volume to Supporting Indigenous Researchers: A practical guide for supervisors (2009).

The Lowitija Institute will be supporting the implementation of a national Indigenous health specialisation in the Master of Public Health (MPH). The MPH will deliver postgraduate units in Indigenous health research and knowledge management on an award and non-award basis to our end-user workforce in health services, policy settings and research institutions.
