Research
The CRC for Aboriginal Health’s vision is for sustained improvements in Aboriginal health through strategic research and development. It aims to do this by:
- Aboriginal direction of the research agenda
- making sure that research leads to practical improvements in services or policy
- building up the skills and abilities of Aboriginal people, communities and organisations to do health research
- funding and facilitating high-quality research
The CRC for Aboriginal Health and its predecessor, the CRC for Aboriginal and Tropical Health, have developed a unique approach to research, which is very different to the traditional model of funding and commissioning research. This approach includes:
- The Indigenous Research Reform Agenda: a broad agenda of reform to ensure that research provides benefits to Aboriginal people and is controlled by Aboriginal people
- The Facilitated Research Development Approach: the CRC for Aboriginal Health mediates relationships between researchers, the Aboriginal health sector and government agencies to set research priorities and develop research projects
- Research Transfer: how research affects policy and health services
- Education and Capacity Development: development of research skills, knowledge and resources for individuals, organisations and communities
- Research Programs: the CRC for Aboriginal Health brings together CRCAH funded and in-kind-contributions research projects, capacity development and research transfer activities into programs of work
