The National Institute for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Research Limited (NIATSIHR Ltd) is a limited liability company trading as the Lowitja Institute. The NIATSIHR is registered as a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee and is structured as a public benevolent institution. The Lowitja Institute is independent of government and other centres of health and policy administration. It has:
- An independent Board, the majority of whom are Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
- The Cooperative Research Centre for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health (CRCATSIH), which is hosted and managed by the Lowitja Institute through to June 2014. The CRCATSIH’s various activities are overseen by an Advisory Board that reports directly to the Lowitja Institute Board.
