Congress Lowitja is the Lowitja Institute’s biennial conference. Congress Lowitja 2014, Many Mobs. One Vision: Creating a Healthy Future, celebrates diverse Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities sharing a common goal for a healthy future. Congress Lowitja 2014 aimed to inform research strategies, programs and projects that will contribute to healthier families and children. The conference sessions looked at cultural competency in health, the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health research workforce and the measurement of the benefit and impact of research.

Aims:
In line with Our Dreaming, Congress Lowitja's aims were:

  • Ensure that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community views and opinions are promoted
  • Bring together our three stakeholders groups (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community, researchers and policy makers)
  • Provide an opportunity for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander researchers, particularly emerging researchers, to participate and present at a national level conference
  • Ensure knowledge exchange/translation of pre-eminent evidence and expertise in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health research.
