The Lowitja Institute appoints Dr Kerry Arabena as new CEO

The Lowitja Institute issued a media release on 3 August to announce that Dr Kerry Arabena has been appointed as the CEO. Dr Arabena is a Torres Strait Islander with a wealth of experience in Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander health, research, policy, administration and community development.

A recent graduate from ANU with a doctorate in human ecology, Dr Arabena has a work and academic history including a term as the administrator of one of the most remote Aboriginal Medical Services in Australia and senior appointments in government, non-government and the private sector. She has also worked across Asia and the Pacific in projects that address gender, social justice, human rights, access and equity, service provision, harm minimisation and citizenship and represented Australia in international forums on HIV/AIDS and climate change.

Dr Arabena will commence with the Lowitja Institute on 19 August 2010. (profile)
